24 March 2018 - The theme of World TB Day 2018 - “Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world”- focuses on building commitment to end TB, not only at the political level with Heads of State and Ministers of Health, but at all levels from Mayors, Governors, parliamentarians and community leaders, to people affected with TB, civil society advocates, health workers, doctors or nurses, NGOs and other partners. All can be leaders of efforts to end TB in their own work or terrain.
World TB Day - Special briefing for country missions to the UN in light of the upcoming UNGA high-level meeting on TB
21 March 2018 - Around a hundred participants, including ambassadors, deputy ambassadors, counsellors and representatives from over 50 permanent missions, joined the World TB Day commemoration at the UN headquarters in New York in a Luncheon & Mission Briefing to discuss actions towards the first-ever UN General Assembly high-level meeting (UNHLM) on tuberculosis (TB). The event was co-sponsored by WHO, Stop TB Partnership, US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the missions of Japan, Antigua & Barbuda, Brazil, and the Russian Federation.
World TB Day event in Geneva
19 March 2018 - The WHO Global TB Programme organized an event at WHO Headquarters in Geneva to commemorate World TB Day 2018 and raise awareness and engagement in the end TB response. The panel discussion featured WHO leadership and included participation from partners such as the Stop TB Partnership, IOM and IFRC.
7 February 2018 - Heads of State will gather in New York in September this year at the United Nations General Assembly first-ever high-level meeting on tuberculosis (TB) to accelerate efforts in ending TB and reach all affected people with prevention and care. The high-level meeting on TB is a tremendous and unprecedented step forward by governments and all partners engaged in the fight against TB. It follows on from a very successful Ministerial Conference on Ending TB in Moscow on 16-17 November, 2017 which resulted in high-level commitments from Ministers and other leaders from 120 countries to accelerate progress to end TB.
