Partner meeting for the eradication of poliomyelitis in the Lake Chad Basin under the coordination and leadership of the WHO African region
N'Djamena, June 30, 2018 -- Poliomyelitis is a disease that is being eradicated. The last endemic countries in the world are Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. After two successive years without detection of poliovirus in Nigeria, wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) resurfaced in Borno State in 2016 with four (04) cases reported. Two circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses (VDPV2c) were also reported in March and November 2016 respectively in Borno and Sokoto States, Nigeria.
07 August 2017 -- A joint external evaluation workshop on implementation of the International Health Regulations 2005 (IHR 2005) was organized by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with WHO in N'Djaména. WHO Regional Office health experts, WHO partners and some member countries (Benin, Mali, DRC and Senegal) were representing different Ministries.
