HECA'S MISSION STATEMENT: A world-wide alliance to reduce environmental risks to children’s health that arise from the settings where they live, learn, play, and sometimes work, by providing knowledge, increasing political will, mobilizing resources, and catalysing intense and urgent action.

HECA Inter-regional consultation

The Healthy Environments for Children Alliance Secretariat and the WHO Regional Office for Africa organized an inter-regional consultation on "Improving Children's Environmental Health in Settings - Experiences and lessons for policies and action" in Entebbe, Uganda from 29 November to 2 December 2005. 

Support to HEC initiatives in countries

With funding from the Government of the Netherlands, 16 HECA-supported pilot projects are now underway in 13 countries aimed at supporting initiatives at local levels that address HECA priority issues. Types of activities being spearheaded by both governmental and non-governmental entities include: children's environmental health profiles and needs assessments; development of multistakeholder action plans to address children's environmental health issues; awareness-raising and advocacy activities; and small-scale implementation activities in key settings.

IPA/WHO/UNEP Workshop for African Pediatricians and others in the health-care sector on Children’s Health and the Environment, Nairobi

The International Pediatric Association (IPA), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) organized a workshop on "Children's Health and the Environment" in Nairobi, Kenya from 12 to 14 October 2005 for health care provider in the African who plan to teach other providers about environmental risks to children’s health. Financial support to participants was provided by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Government of the Netherlands.
