Who we are

WHO Department of HIV/AIDS & Global Hepatitis Programme

The WHO Department of HIV/AIDS is part of the cluster for Communicable Diseases. It consists of the following units: the Global Hepatitis Programme, HIV Treatment and Care; Key Populations and Prevention; Strategic Information and Planning; and Office of the Director.

What we do

The Department of HIV/AIDS and the Global Hepatitis Programme provide evidence-based, normative and policy support to Member States in scaling up HIV and hepatitis treatment, care and prevention services to enable a comprehensive and sustainable response to these epidemics in developing countries. Our work is guided by WHO's global strategy for HIV and hepatitis. The strategy covers the period 2016-2021. It was developed with partners and stakeholders and was endorsed by the Sixty-ninth World Health Assembly on 28 May 2016.

Where we work

The Department of HIV/AIDS and the Global Hepatitis Programme is located in WHO headquarters in Geneva, working in close cooperation with other departments. It also coordinates WHO's HIV and hepatitis activities conducted through units at regional and country offices.
