Strengthening health security by implementing the International Health Regulations (2005)

Transport of infectious substances

During disease outbreaks, countries need to have the capacity and expertise to ensure the safe transport of infectious substances.

WHO contributes to the development of United Nations Model Regulations for the transport of infectious substances, which are the basis for international and national regulations addressing transport by air, road, rail, and sea.

To help shippers and other relevant personnel to comply with regulations, WHO has developed guidance and training resources on the transport of infectious substances.
