WHO has compiled a list of sources of medicines price information and health care guides from health agencies and national ministries of health. The sources listed below are grouped by health agencies and WHO regions. Most cover a broad range of medicines, but some focus on specific areas of medicine. To alert WHO to any updates,

Health agencies

  • IDA Foundation E-catalogue
    Frequency of updates: quarterly
    Medicines scope: focused on medicines on the WHO Essential Medicines List
    Registered customers can access the e-catalogue of the IDA Foundation, which supplies medicines to low- and medium-income countries.
  • Management Sciences for Health International Drug Price Indicator Guide
    Frequency of updates: regular
    Medicines scope: focused on medicines on the WHO Essential Medicines List
    A searchable database of medicines and other health products
  • Médecins Sans Frontières Untangling the Web of antiretroviral price reductions
    Frequency of updates: annually, since 2001
    Medicines scope: HIV/AIDS
    The MSF Access Campaign has been monitoring the patent barriers, prices and availability of ARVs through Untangling the Web since 2001, and releases a report usually every year.
  • Price and Quality Reporting The Global Fund, 2004
    Frequency of updates: regular
    Medicines scope: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
    A searchable web-based system in English, French and Spanish used by the Global Fund to collect transaction-level procurement information on key health products.
  • Stop TB Global Drug Facility Products Price List
    Frequency of updates: regular
    Medicines scope: tuberculosis
    A list of the highest and lowest product prices offered by the Global Drug Facility's principal suppliers.
  • UNICEF sources and prices of selected medicines for children
    Frequency of updates: last updated 2010
    Medicines scope: medicines for children
    A 2010 publication covering the availability and price of 240 drug items in different paediatric formulations selected from the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children.
  • WHO Global Price Reporting Mechanism for HIV, tuberculosis and malaria
    Frequency of updates: regular
    Medicines scope: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
    A database recording international transactions of HIV, tuberculosis and malaria commodities purchased by national programmes in low- and middle-income countries.
  • WHO/HAI Project on Medicine Prices and Availability database
    Frequency of updates: sporadic, since 2003
    Medicines scope: 50 medicines
    A database of findings from the WHO/HAI Project on Medicine Prices and Availability country surveys of medicine prices, which have been running since 2003.
  • WHO Vaccine Price Database (V3P)
    Medicines scope: all vaccines
    The WHO Vaccine Price Database gathers price information on vaccines from more than 40 countries. The database as well as interactive graphs are available on the website and fully downloadable. Prices are provided by countries as well as PAHO and UNICEF on an annual basis.
