Overview

WHO and TDR convened a two-day meeting of stakeholders from countries endemic for T. solium and developers of diagnostic tests to discuss difficulties with diagnostics experienced in the field, to coordinate and harmonize the search for appropriate diagnostic tests for T. solium and to overcome the challenges in doing so.

This meeting report summarizes country-specific information from China, Madagascar, Mexico and Latin America, Peru, Viet Nam and Zambia as well as information from laboratory and pipeline developers of tests for T. solium taeniasis, neurocysticercosis and porcine cysticercosis, to facilitate discussion regarding current diagnostic and logistical challenges related to T. solium. Perspectives on developing new diagnostic tests are shown; future goals related to T. solium diagnostics are outlined.
