New implementation guidance to protect, promote and support breastfeeding in health facilities globally

11 April 2018 — WHO and UNICEF issued new ten-step guidance to increase support for breastfeeding in health facilities that provide maternity and newborn services. Breastfeeding all babies for the first two years would save the lives of more than 820 000 children under age 5 annually.

24 October 2016 — WHO and UNICEF hosted the BFHI Congress at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, inviting representatives from countries all around the world to celebrate achievements, examine current status, discuss new guidance, form regional networks to improve country programmes and commit with the follow up and implementation of policies and standards of care that promote, protect and support breastfeeding at maternity facility and country level.
