Reproductive, maternal, newborn & child health (RMNCH) was given high priority in several key events held in association with this year’s UN General Assembly and High Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD's), held in the second half of September 2011 in New York.

Year One Anniversary: Every Woman Every Child Campaign

On 20 September, the Every Woman Every Child ( campaign marked the first anniversary of the launch of the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health with a plenary event hosted by the UN Secretary-General to showcase contributions from heads of state, government and leaders from various stakeholder groups whose achievements have been significant during the past year. This afternoon event was followed by an evening reception, hosted by UN MDG advocate Ray Chambers, to be attended by heads of state and government, as well as CEOs, NGO leaders, celebrities and key stakeholders.

PMNCH Report on Global Strategy

In the run-up to this first anniversary event, PMNCH released its 2011 report on the commitments to the Global Strategy. This report provides a descriptive analysis of the financial, policy and service delivery commitments to the Strategy in order to promote greater action and accountability.

PMNCH & the High-Level Meeting on NCD’s

Global leaders met at the United Nations in New York from 19-20 September 2011 to set a new international agenda on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) – heart attacks and strokes, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease – which account for over 63% of deaths in the world, and some 9 million people under 60 each year.
